Guided Canoeing on the Garden Route - 1 day
Enjoy a tranquil paddle on the lazy amber rivers near Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. The best way to spend a hot day, get close to the abundant birdlife , view the forest creatures from your canoe, picnic on the banks in a shady spot and swim in the pristine rivers.
CANOEING GOUKAMMA RIVER CANOEING - HALF DAY
Spend a sunny morning on the picturesque Goukamma River. Open to the sea, the lagoon supports diverse habitats & an abundance of wild life. You might paddle beneath the watchful gaze of resident fish eagles, enjoy the antics of the shore waders and perhaps take some time to relax and sun yourself like the darters.
After enjoying a paddlers snack we head back towards the sea. There are fascinating rock pools at the sea side of the reserve, with beautiful beaches to chill on. This is the perfect place to spend a lazy day. You’re welcome to spend all day soaking up the sun at Goukamma reserve after the canoe trip.
ADD ON A GOUKAMMA BEACH WALK TO MAKE IT A FULL DAY...
After the paddle we head to the ocean for a breathtaking walk along the unspoiled beaches of the Goukamma Reserve & Marine protected area. Using the ferry to cross the river, the trail heads through Milkwood forest & down to Skimmelkrans on the beach. You’ll follow the beautiful coastline back to your starting point, but will have plenty of time to explore the beach, intertidal zones and have a swim in the magnificent ocean. Keep your eyes peeled for dolphins and whales.
CANOEING ON THE KEURBOOMS RIVER - HALF DAY
Join us for a scenic paddling up the Whiskey Creek Gorge in the picturesque Keurbooms Reserve. GoVertical’s guides invite you to spend the morning exploring this stretch of forested wilderness. From the lazy river, to the overhanging cliffs and forested slopes, the scenery is splendid.
We take a break on one of the many of the idyllic sandy beaches along the river to enjoy a paddlers lunch. It is possible to swim, wade and explore the area. The water is crystal clear, but also the colour of coca cola, a strange concept. The colour is due to the tannins and humus from the forest and is natural & unpolluted. Knysna Loeries, Fish eagle, shy bush buck, genets and many forest creatures live along the Keurbooms Canoe Trail.
